Relay for Life - Cancer Survivors Reception

A reception will be held in the Social Hall prior to the 2008 Hopkins/St. Louis Park Relay for Life.

Cancer touches many of us, in our families, friends, neighbors, and parish families. The Relay For Life is an opportunity for us to help those we know and those we don’t know.

June 20 is the date for the 2008 Hopkins/St. Louis Park Relay For Life to be held at the Hopkins High School track. The Relay is an overnight event for the purpose of raising money for cancer research, education, services and advocacy. It is also an opportunity to celebrate all cancer survivors. Teams of 8-15 people take turns walking around the track from 7:00pm - 6:00am to honor cancer survivors and victims. It is a time when churches, businesses, families, neighborhoods and other community groups come together to take up the fight against cancer.

Last year there were 23 teams which raised $54,000.00 for the American Cancer Society. A number of the teams last year consisted of members of St. Joseph’s Parish. St. Joseph’s BeFriender Ministry was one of those teams and they are having a team again this year. If you would be interested in joining the BeFriender team, call Pat Bell 952-933-0088.

A highlight of the Relay is the Luminaria Ceremony to honor those who have survived cancer and to remember those who have not. The BeFrienders will be selling luminaries after all the Masses the weekend of June 7 & 8 at the front and east Church entrances.

If you would like additional information on the relay please contact Allie at 952-938-1995 or talk with the person selling the luminaries.
