Grief Support Ministry

The components of grief support ministry include: Pastoral care for the person dying and their grieving family members, support in planning the funeral liturgy and luncheon, and follow-up grief ministry. St. Joseph’s Parish is one of the sponsoring churches in the West Metro Grief Support Coalition, which offers weekly grief support groups. St. Joseph’s hosts the groups every two-three years.

West Metro Grief Support Coalition

In response to the needs of the Twin Cities community, a group of west metro area churches organized the West Metro Grief Support Coalition. The mission of this coalition is to provide caring support and education for persons who are experiencing grief and loss. Learning about the process of grief and sharing our experience in a confidential setting offers the hope of personal growth and healing. Losses may include:

  • Death of a spouse or parent
  • Death of a child, pregnancy and infant loss
  • Death of a family member
  • Death of a significant other
  • Death of a friend
  • Suicide
